Hi, I don't mean to discredit a few of the previous replies but *DO NOT use Pantene*! It's cheap for a reason. My hair dresser says it is very bad for your hair. It has the same chemical makeup as floor wax. Our hair has a natural PH level between 3.5-5.5 of acidity and Pantene falls under the 9-11 acidic level! Yikes! I had even read somewhere that Pantene is strong enough that it has the capability to perm someone's hair! :s

My suggestion, go to a beauty supply to buy shampoo & conditioner. They may be more expensive than what you get at the store but don't you think it's worth it if your hair looks and feels better? My hair dresser recommends Purology. Biolage is also good, as well as, Paul Mitchell, Redken and others... Ask the beauty store professional what they think will be the best for your hair type.

As for a simple hairstyle, that's a matter of preference. I like a high half-ponytail / half-bun in my hair. I make a high pontytail but I don't bring my hair out all the way so it makes a loop. Then I take bobby pins and secure the underparts of the loop close to where the elastic is so it sort of looks like a messy bun (sometimes it takes practice to get it how you'd like). Then I sometimes finish the look with a headband and leave some bangs out to frame my face.

Good luck! :)

Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine or Curl and Shine depending on the stlye you want for that day will really work. I have thick dry hair too and it makes it nice and smooth. A nice style would be get layers thats always been in and will always be in style, don't get short layers though cuz it will look sloppy and make your hair look more thicker. Angled layers look nice and with some layers in the back, i can't really explain it that well.

You can straighten your hair with a good straightener like GHD or Sedu. If you do use infusion-23 leave in conditioner or Garnier Frucits sleek and shine leave in conditioner. Then let it air dry and straighten in layers using heat protectant of Paul Mitchell or some other good brand. When you layer do it in small pieces layer by layer so that it can come out more straightener and last longer. Finish if off with some shine spray or hair spray.

You can also scrunch your hair if you have straight hair then you should get some curl-defining mousse or gel to the hair and curl it using a barrel iron. Or products that will make your hair curly like Garnier Frucits Curl and Shine. Then when you get out of the shower, Wrap your hair in a small towel. Do not rub your hair at all with the towel. What you can do is wring it within the towel if the ends are still dripping. Comb your fingers or a wide-tooth comb through your hair. Spray hairspray in your hair. Put it near the middle and bottom of your hair. Putting it too close to your roots will cause it to look greasy and weighed down. Put gel in your hands and rub them together to spread the gel. Grab a small handful of hair by the ends and push it up toward the head. You can let it air dry or use a diffuser. Repeat this all over your head, reapplying the gel every time. Keep in mind that small handfuls yield tighter waves and large handfuls create full, loose waves.

Well u used the worst shampoos out there, no wonder it didnt work for u, since ur hair is dry u need a shampoo with nutritive oils in it, there's few that works really well, first is the garnier fructis sleek & shine.. and u can get the serum sleek and shine for flyways and frizz its great, then there's time renewal pantene, so pick one, the best hairstyle is just leaving ur hair down, just change ur head line sometimes (side or center), and u can add to ur hair some curls ( curling iron) as long as ur hair is down anything u do with it is gonna look good, and u dont need to curl it all to have a beautifull look just few strands will work.
PS : use (please) more often.

First of all, shampoo and conditioner aren't going to do a whole lot for straightening or even shine for that matter. In those cases, you'll need to use styling products. It will help to use a good quality moisturizing shampoo and conditioner - it will help a bit with shine if your hair is dry.
To gain straightess and shine with your styling products - find a straightening balm or lotion to use before blowdrying. For shine, it's good to use a lightweight shine spray- or even possibly an oilier serum to help hold flyaways down (since your hair is thick, it can probably handle a serum, most people with fine hair can't).
Good Luck.

I don't know for straight but what I started to use for shiney was 2 raw eggs mixed with 2 tsp. of oil (vegetable, olive) and put it on my hair once a week before I took a shower and leave it on for about 30 minutes. It will increase the shine

Have you tried using a flatiron? It's good for shining and straightening. Since your hair is so thick, you'd only have to do it every couple/few days, then wash/condition with sunsilk, paul mitchell products, etc. and straighten over again. Always, always use a heat protectant.

Try sunsilk, they have a different type of product for different types of hair. I think the best for you would either be the Straightening one or the Moisture one.

Here is the site for Sunsilk so that you can get all the information you need, plus a free sample: www.gethairapy.com
