My brother was watching my girls while their father was sleeping and I ran some errands. While he was making them their lunch, my oldest got into Vaseline. I was freaking out when I got home. Anyways, I have tried kids' shampoo, Pantene shampoo, soap, dishsoap and conditioner. This stuff is not coming out. Is there anything I can use to get it out of her hair?

I found this at hairboutique.com. It doesn't suggest hot water like the wikihow site, as it is for a toddler. Hope it helps!

Removing Vaseline
Luckily the news is good. Vaseline, which is composed of petroleum jelly (petrolatum) can be removed from hair. One of the most reliable removal methods involves cornstarch.

Apply a little cornstarch to the hair and carefully pat, (don't rub), it into the hair. The cornstarch will absorb some, if not all of the Vaseline. After you apply the cornstarch shampoo it out with a good clarifying shampoo like Philou Green Apple shampoo or a similar product. Most, if not all, of the Vaseline should be removed with the first treatment. If not, repeat until all the greasiness is gone. Be sure to use warm not hot water for the shampoo. Cold water makes the Vaseline worse.

If you are out of cornstarch you can try a baking soda/shampoo option. Mix one teaspoon of baking soda and mix it with a regular baby shampoo. Pat the mixture onto the hair while it is still dry. Then add warm to hot water. This should help. Repeat until all the Vaseline is removed.

Although flour will work as a cornstarch substitute, it is not usually as effective. Flour may also tend to dry the hair out more than the cornstarch.

Keep in mind that after applying cornstarch, flour or baking soda, you hair may need some extra TLC and a good deep conditioning treatment.

Good luck!!!

OK , i have had this problem only with a substance called bag balm, keep using a thick coating of just conditioner it will break up the Vaseline, it may take a few times but it will work, DO NOT USE SHAMPOO!! it will make it worse just use the conditioner.

Baby shampoo on DRY (wet hair and vaseline will create a water/oil barrier and not let the shampoo penetrate the vaseline) hair, work into a lather, rinse, then shampoo again. Then switch your brother's toothpaste with a tube of Preparation H and watch the fun begin!

Try as best you can. I know its gonna be tough with a toddler!

"1. Take a dry towel and try to remove as much of the Vaseline as possible. (You will probably not be able to remove much of it.)
2. Pack cornstarch into all the affected areas of your hair. Because cornstarch clumps together, it will stay in your hair.
3. Take a hot shower and remove the cornstarch with your regular shampoo.
4. Towel off your hair. You will most likely still feel the Vaseline in your hair.
5. Rinse your hair with hot water.
6. Take a shower with hot water but instead of using your regular shampoo use dish washing soap.
7. Wash your hair twice with the dish washing soap while you are in the shower.
8. Follow up with your regular shampoo and conditioner because the dish soap may smell funny.
9. Let your hair dry. The Vaseline should be out now!"

Vaseline has oil in it, and therefore, a water-based product will NOT get it out.
but definitely try Dawn or some dishsoap to work it out.

remember... oil and water NEVER mix!!!!

you could also try mineral spirits, but be careful because its on a child! Or Gum Spirits...

you can get those in Paint department at Lowe's.

Try putting cornstarch in the hair before washing. It works with really oily hair, so it might help here.

Try a clarifying shampoo like neutragena. It strips the buildup, it's harsh, it's exactly what you're looking for.

As a last resort you could try a degreaser (stanley degreaser or lestoil), but I wouldn't want to put anything like that on my kids without trying everything else first.

Try Dawn dish soap. But I really wouldn't worry,it's only vaseline. It'll come out.

If you are not able to get it out of your kid's hair than plz get his head shave. Using so much and different stuff on a baby's head may create problem, or he may not get good quality of hair after. So plz be carefull and all the best.
