Hair - January 2007

I'm 15, Black—I'm also of Korean decent, but my African ancestry outweighs my Asian decent by more than two-fourths—and I've been getting my hair permed/relaxed for years. I heard that perms will eventually break out the hair, and I want to stop getting perms, to go "natural", but I don't know what to do. I hate afros and dreds and, although don't mind getting braids or cornrows, I like my hair to be kind of straight, but I don't know how to keep my hair basically straight without perms. My parents say my hair will be really nappy without perms, and this kind of worries me. Will my hair become unmanageable? Also, I've read that heating appliances—such as blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons, etc.—will break out hair, too. Is this true? If so, how can I do my hair in the morning without using heating appliances to it so much when I don't have braids and have a little over 15 minutes to do it before school? What are the advantages and disadvantages of "going natural"? By the way, my hair stops an inch or two above my shoulders and is a bit thick, but not very.

I cut my hair 1/8" (1/8 of an inch, its really short) how long will it take to grow 1/4" and since its so short will I see any new growth in 7 days???

uu well my skin color is a white kinda dark color. i have started out with mediem brown hair color then i put blond with it. now i but a reaaly dark brown with red in it. now i was wondering if i should die it black on the bottom and blond on top or if i should just die it balck.

My hair actually started at a very dark brown. Almost a black.
Back in elementary school, it was a very dark brown. As I got older, it started to turned a little lighter, but then it just stopped. After my first year of high school, I noticed it was now a lighter brown shade. Still considered a dark brown, but it's not as dark as before. I'm in my second year of high school and it's actually brown now. Not dark brown. Just brown. I'm afraid of it getting any lighter. It would look weird since I'm Asian. Everybody is starting to asking me if i dyed my hair. Is there a way that I can prevent my hair color from getting any lighter? Is there a natural way to slowly darken my hair again?

Is there any natural way that I can darken it?
Somebody answered my question previously with eat dark foods. Somehow, I doubt that will work.

I really want to go get my hair cut since I just let my layers grow out. I was thinking to have it done like Finola Hughes (http://www.stylenetwork.com/Features/Oscars2005/ ) but my hair is really thick and wavy/curly. would this work for my hair type? if not any suggestions? I was told that if you put baking soda in with your shampoo and wash your hair it will help get rid of the color that you previouslt dyed it if you dont like it. Does this work. How harsh is it on your hair. It will only give it breakage right? It wont fall out or anything will it?

Does anyone have any cute ways to kinda jazz up a simple ponytail besides like headbands and whatnot? Or make a simple bun look cute but not over the top?
