i just cut my hair up to my shoulders and it looks really ugly how do i make it longer plz help

I need some help figuring out a hair style for my homecoming dance.
My hair is shoulder length layered brown w/ blonde highlights.
I would like an up-do that is easy and won't take too long.
If any one has any suggestions, that would be great!!

My husband wants to do my highlights here at home... having someone do them at home has bit me in the butt before... I'm Asian, (the ching chang chong kind!) and have for most of my life thick / spikey (unintentional) hair, I have to use a ton of gel to get it to stay down.

I see so many people with really really short hair that just sits flat on their head without sticking up, I'm really envious and am hoping someone can help me, I just want my hair to lay flat on my head without applying gel Every Day!!!

Then I can finally have a Short hair cut!

I'm just wondering, since people have told me that my hair is puffy, wavy, and since I'm growing it out, my hair looks bigger than it really should. Right now, I'm keeping it in a ponytail, (since it's bothersome to keep it down right now). So all I'm asking is: what should I do with my hair to make it straight? I just wondering if lack of vitamins and lack of drinking milk does it effect hair loss? I'm 20 now and since I was little I don't really drink milk. But I eat others nurtientions food for the vitamins. Does it effect hair loss? I have very very thin hair and everytime I wash my hair seems like I'm losing a lot? um, i know this question seems really random, but at my high school, the seniors get to dress up the underclassman on the day before homecoming. long story short, i got dressed up as a penguin and they put vaseline in my hair to slick it back.
