I'm talking about back before the days of refinishing machines and such. Think 1500's. I know that they used chisels for the begining work, but how did they finish it?

thanks!

I want to insert a thin copper rod into the piece before I do the final firing. I want the rod to remain permanently embedded. Using a permanent glue has been tried, and I'm unhappy with the results.

is it possible to stick a metal sheet on a ceramic before it is kilned and later cover it again with ceramic to hide the sheet? in other words, can i glue a metal plate on my old ceramic vase and cover it with ceramic paste again? Can I prevent the shrinking of the fresh clay by just bisque firing, or leaving it under sunlight instead of kilning, will it help if I wax the old ceramic before putting on the second layer?

i need to hide the metal sheet in two layers, it's a kind of school project so ANY COMMENTS or DIFFERENT IDEAS ARE WELCOME.

thanks

I work freelance for a toy company and an aquaintence of mine who works there recently asked me if I would do some sculpts for some action figures he's hoping to market (approx. 5" by 3" by 3") and I have NO idea how much I should charge him. Can anyone give me some pricing suggestions so I don't rip myself off or the guy asking me to do this? Thanks!

The filaments are made of plastic and are about 20" long. I insert about 2" of one end into a vase with a 1/2 " mouth to form a fountain spray effect. If you have ever seen a blown pair of swans facing each other and the vase with the filaments flowing out of its mouth like a spring standing in the center of the pair swans then you have an idea what I am searching for. I need these filaments for my glassworks. I looking to buy at least 10lbs. of it per order for now if you or you know who may be saleing it.

...and if the clay in more than and inch and a half thick, we have to hollow it out.
Whenever I try to hollow it out, the walls of the thing cave in.
I seem to have tried everything ranging from exacto knives to pull wires, nothing just seems to work.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas on how to keep the walls up while I hollow it out?
