I need to know what is the difference between power pack strobes, monolights, and continous lighting equipment. I also need to know what are the advantages? Disadvantages? And possible uses for each besides the obvious of "lighting?" I hope that makes sense. I just think that each lighting equipment is used to photograph particular things.

I've had no formal training but with the encouragement from my co-workers I started a small photography business on the side. The definition of the word, "professional" has changed over the years and seems to mean different things to different people. What determines a professional?? Wikipedia basically states that you can receive payment and still be an amateur. When would I be considered a pro'? After I've completed some courses? If so, how many would I need to take or is it just skill that counts? I remember this term caused some problem with Olympic skaters several years ago....

. . .with ham-fisted Photoshop manipulation? I'm talking about landscape photos I see posted on the Web. I wonder what makes a photographer think he/she could ever begin to improve on the true colors of a landscape. To me it looks bizarre and unnatural, like a little girl heavily made-up and dressed like a hooker. Why go to the trouble of capturing a great nature scene, only to discard the very thing that makes it great--the naturalness of it? Your thoughts?

Merry Christmas to everyone!

All I here about is digital this and digital that. Aren't there any artists and craftsmen left? Tell me that true photography has not gone the way of the dinosaurs! I even use archaic methods, like cyanotypes for instance. Or Polaroid transfers. You know; stuff with film, a darkroom, time and patience, art and vision. I can use Photoshop well enough, but I think we are losing a valuable art form. Where are all of you????

Now I dont ve any doubt that A 540 is the best camera which fulfils all my parameters. I am ready 2 buy this model. But....

2 day I have visited 2 different "Authorised Dealer" of Canon in Kolkata, India (Esplanade). The MRP of 540 is Rs 14500. 1 quoted a price of Rs. 12500(incl. Tax) another Rs. 12000(incl. Tax). Again I visited another shop (in the same locality) which is not the "Authorised Dealer" of Canon but sells Kodak, Fuji digicams and is a good shop. It quoted a price of Rs. 11500(incl. Tax). It will provide the bill, warranty card etc... Now the questions r:

1. Can it give me fake models of A 540?
2. Should I buy frm the "Authorised Dealer" by paying Rs. 500 xtra.
3. Will the price of Canon Cameras fall drastically in the next yr after the realease of new models?(If so I'm ready 2 wait 4 a few days)

Really I'm baffled. Please help. I'll forever ramain grateful to u 4 all ur valuable posts.

Yours
Sudip :-/

I currently use Photoshop CS. I have recently found out all of its capabilities after playing around with and looking at tutorials. Although I am sure I will improve over time, I can't help by notice that other photographers editted photos look almost unrealistic and full of fantasy. What other photo retouching programs are out there? Or the best? Or a reasonable one?

I have some really great landscape type photos that I think would be good to sell for use in a calander or a post card. Does anyone know of a venue for this type of thing? Is there a clearing house for this type of thing or just individual companies?
