My great aunt, Louise Kelly, painted from the 1920's thru the 1940's making attractive paintings mostly of Mexico near California and of the villages and coast of New England along with a few parrots, some French scenes and some upper midwest scenes. Her paintings are clearly signed with her name in printed letters, most often in the lower left, but sometimes lower right. I would like to locate as many of her paintings as I can, just for the record, not to buy them.

I am new to oil painting and have been trying to figure out how to make my own stand oils and brush cleaners.
I've noticed that supplies are much cheaper if you buy them from hardware stores (in much larger quantities) than art stores, but I'm not sure if they are adequate replacements.

Here's a little of what I've come across:
Is boiled linseed oil (hardware product) the same as purified linseed oil (art product)?

For turpentine replacements: Is turpatine the same thing as turpenoid? Are they odorless?

Are (odorless) mineral spirits or low-odor paint thinners adequate substitutes?

I'm assuming that a decent stand oil would consist of equal parts of oil and thinner. Is this correct?

Any other suggestions for a beginning oil painter?

Hi,

I'm a tremendous fan of Caravaggio and the Tenebrist style of the Baroque period (both in Spain and Italy).

Does anyone know of similar, contemporary painters?

* I do not mean abstract tenebrists.

We haven't had many buyers in our paintings, and of course we believe that our paintings are great! Why don't other people buy them? Are we not advertising them enough? We go to a lot of art shows...anyway, what do you think of these paintings? Do you think they are good? What are your opinions on them?

I have a standard acoustic and I would like to personalize it with an image of my own creation.

But first I need to sketch on it to get the image in place but the varnish on it probably wouldnt allow pencil.

Any ideas on what I need to use?

I know oils would take to long to dry and secondly that looks a bit too messy. Acrylic may look flat and chip off.
