Seurat was born in Paris, France and spent his whole life there apart from a spell at military academy in Brest.
He lived for a long while in Boulevard de Clichy in Paris, moving to another studio when he started secretly living with a model, Madeleine Knobloch.
He is buried in the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise in Paris.

Seurat was born in 1859 and died in 1891. He finished only a few paintings in his short life. He studied art during his school years, and loved museums. His first works were drawings in mostly black and white. Later, he began using small dots of color to create his work. He spent as long as two years on a single work. This work has come to be known as Pointalism.
