I read somewhere that the expensive price tags are due to the previous owners of the paintings, who are (or mostly were) famous people.

What I don't understand is this: Aren't most artworks too overrated? The Mona Lisa for example. I've never seen it up close, but never once in my life have I ever thought, "Hm, pretty," when I look at it. Personally, Da Vinci's folios are more interesting to me. They're a lot more creative and beautiful.

Don't the people who buy these types of artwork feel ripped off for their money? Or are they just status symbols?

P.S. Also, IMO, most of Picasso's works are more pleasant to the eye than Da Vinci's. And my personal favourite painting of all time is Van Gogh's The Starry Night.

Hello, there, I have a digital SLR camera (cannon 350d, if that helps). Its great, and takes great photos, of people, buildings, etc. But I had a problem the other day with the focus. I was trying to take a picture of a small bear (which was about 30cms from the camera) in front of a large buidling (which was across the rd, some distance away). I tried both auto focus and manual focus, but my camera would either focus on the bear (with the background blurry), or focus on the building (with the bear blurry). A normal (non SLR), un focus-able camera would be able to get both clear in the one shot, but I am not sure what setting I need to put my camera on to be able to get the foreground AND background clear and in focus. Any ideas? Thanks!

My colleagues and I are trying to decide whether or not to paint the walls of our new office to match our company logo. The logo itself is mainly pink (Yeah, I know) and the color of the walls are in Magnolia. Any tips from the yahoo community?

I am looking for a grad school to go to in NY NJ area for Masters of Fine Arts in the field of painting. I am looking for a good balance of traditional and modern environment. I paint in realistic style, but incorporate a lot of abstract and modern concepts.

I know there are many art grad schools in this area, that is why I am looking for people's suggestions from their experience.

I want to pursue a career in 2D animation for television shows like Ed, Edd, n' Eddy or The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, but I can't find animations schools that have programs for traditional animation. Yes, I know 2D is a dying art, but it is what I am good at and shows like Spongebob and Family Guy aren't going anywhere soon. I really need help on this!

I know, this seems like a silly question, but I'm having a hard time telling them apart. I thought the oils in particular would have a distinctive smell or that the liquid on top would be oily vs. the goo on the acrylics, but the gunk on top of the acrylics is pretty viscous too. They're all in those unlabeled little plastic pots that come joined together in sets, which is why I'm so thrown.

Who agrees with me that photograpy should not be degital, i think the because automation destroys creativity, with black and whit 35mm it takes creativity , a good "photgraphic eye"and experiance to make a good print, with digital you can take the worst shot ever and make it look amazing using photoshop i personally think this is cheating and i do all my work in a dark room never on a computer.
