Isn't it true that religion has been the cause of most wars in the history of time? Our beliefs and constant need to shove our beliefs down the throats of those who believe in things otherwise, has caused so many problems.
We have been so quick to discredit ancient Gods such as the Greek gods, but who can discredit a belief? If God exists in Christianity, then why can't they accept to possibility of other gods?

Sorry if this question offends anyone. Then again you have the choice to answer it or ignore it :)

If space is infinite, and the number of stars is infinite, then working backward, if we were to rewind the tape, hence collapsing all the matter back into the single "blob of mass" that initially exploded...the mass would be infinite. Right? If we take an infinitie amount of mass, add it up, it would be infinite.

Since there couldn't have been a mass of infinite size, is it logical to conclude that space is finite?

We have been discussing both Philosophies in class and it is said that with Existentialism, existence comes first and then it is followed by the essence--man is the only one responsible for his existence and what is happening in his life (freedom and responsibility over actions) while Essentialism is merely fulfilling destiny and existing to fulfill a plan by God. My professor also pointed out that our inauthenticity makes us believe in both, whichever is convenient-freedom whenever we want to do something against God's teaching, calling on to God whenever our exercise of freedom gets us in deep trouble. Well, can we or can we not believe in both authentically without violating the principle of one or the other?

...are we just there by chance, because of the process of evolution and countless fortuities? And if there was no purpose in the beginning, should there be a purpose anyway? What should this purpose be? Or is the main purpose in the end, as for all other things alive, just to survive? But why? For what?

Think about it and write your comment.

We generally accept that humans are conscious of their own existence - but what about other living things? What do you think is the "cut-off point" between those living things which are and those which aren't? For example: are ants aware of existence? Are plants? Plankton?

Just like energy, is it true that happiness plus sorrow in this world is conserved ? That is, you cannot create new happiness and sorrow. If you are happy, it is at the cost of sadness of others in some form .

Morality, without strength of character, can be moulded to suit the situation.

An example is a person who would never kill another intentionally who is more than happy to push the button on a lethal injection machine, and Why? Because twelve people said so.

Another example may be someone who would never steal from another will skim a little off the top from someone who is rich because they don't need it.

Morality for those with weak characters, for those who are easily swayed by popular opinion or those who have deep seated and totally unquestioned beliefs, is a dangerous thing. It can be twisted to suit the situation, to allow anything that is needed or desired. Lynch mobs are a great example of this, every person in the lynch mob feels completely morally justified with whatever the mob does.

How can one prevent such twisting or morality to suit a situation, without self assured judgement? Is there a better way?

Please explain your answers.

Thanks.

I checked my Q. & found someone had gone thru & thumb down everyone. So rather than rant here is my Q. Do you give a thumb down just because you disagree? What reason would you give a thumb down. Is it not time we got rid of this plaything for the trolls? Thanks for answering.

Besides murdering innocent soldiers and each other, and although not shown they presumably rob, pillage, and commit other crimes, they also betray each other at every step. If it weren't for the supernatural plot elements these films would be nothing but butchery and thievery. Can anyone justify the presentation and glorification of these immoral behaviors? How does Disney do so?
