Money is only an intermediate means or indirect means for satisfying our wishes...... it can purchase the necessary means for satisfying our wishes. That makes it less than proximate to the fulfillment and to that extent it is flawed for the purpose.... for instance one may have the money to buy the toy for the child's birthday, but the shops may be closed or may not have stock.

Secondly, money being useful as a common intermediate means creates another major issue... people develop love for money itself and in the process forget that it is only a means to buy the means that can satisfy our wishes. Love for money as such can drive people crazy, as has been experienced time and again.

Thirdly, money seems to be highly quantity oriented.... money can not assure quality. Money can buy the costliest food, but can in no way ensure required taste........ money can take us to the best of concerts, but the finer quality of music would much depend on the day and the mood of the artists.

Money, if we remember it to be our servant rather than our master, can do a lot of good, but certainly not all the good. Moreover, it can also be used to fulfill wishes which are wicked or evil since it is merely a standardized tool to acquire material objects and services.

I like your style of posing such a 'leading' question forcing the mind to search and churn out the real truth.

Money is neither good nor evil, it is merely a convenient exchange mechanism which is far superior to bartering.

It's a tool, and like all tools it's what you do with it that's important. A hammer is neither good nor evil, it can be used for building a house, or for murder. It's the intention of the wielder that's important.

To the person who used the usual misquote: "money is the root of all evil" that is not right, the correct quote is "the love of money is the root of all evil". Of course that's not actually true either, but you should at least get it right.

Money is symbolic energy.

We use to help us exchange real energy items like a tank of gas or having the lawn mowed.

Life is an energy eddy. Whether it's the ecology or the economy it's all about the flow of energy. Even good & evil can be more or less defined in terms of energy. When you catch a meal (collect energy) that's good, when something makes a meal of you, that's evil.

Money helps humans exchange energy, so money is profoundly pro life. But life is both good and evil, so money isn't really good or evil per se, because it increases lifes capacity to do either.

JFTR Nancy it's "The LOVE of money is the root of all evil"
A bit of an overstatment I think, but it is important to understand the significance having money lies in what we do with it.

The old saying, "Money is the root of all evil", can well be adapted into our society. We need money to survive, live a decent life, yet once the money is no longer coming in we panic. Why? Because the majority of the population is credit card poor and has over extended themselves with material goods. Let's face it, we can survive with one car instead of two; yes, it is inconvenient, someone would either have to take a bus, ride a bike or god forbid, walk. Money is nice to have so we can go on exotic vacations, buy the best clothing, purchase the top grade meats, but the question one has to ask themselves, can I get by with basic needs without going into debt?

If it not the absolute, then I'd say pretty close. It is, indeed, and abstract satisfaction, and a vitural pat on the back. It is a reinforcement and perpetuates motion and activity. It is very pleasing and satisfying. I see no evil in it. Only evil in the people who twist it into odd shapes.

nothing abstract about money or wishing one had some..
if one works and earns his/her share then it's yours to do as you wish..money is good..try living without it..ask the poor and the homeless what money can do for them..greed on the other hand is nothing more than a selfish ego trip from a person who will step on any one to get want he/she wants..that is sinful money..

Continuum fallacy, also called fallacy of the beard is a logical fallacy which abuses the paradox of the heap. The fallacy appears to prove that two states are not different, or do not exist at all, because there is a continuum of states between them; that there is no difference in quality because there exists a difference in quantity.

Or conversely, that there is no difference in quantity because there is a difference in quality is equally fallacious.

Money, when it was gold and silver, was an objective value exchanged for another value--food, a rug, a pair of shoes. When paper money was backed by silver and gold, it was the equal of silver and gold in value, but was easier to carry.
Now that it is no longer backed by anything but America's "good name and credit" it is a farce. Who can exchange their money with the government for its "good name"? We are supposed to be able to exchange it for the gold and silver that ought to back it up.
