Besides murdering innocent soldiers and each other, and although not shown they presumably rob, pillage, and commit other crimes, they also betray each other at every step. If it weren't for the supernatural plot elements these films would be nothing but butchery and thievery. Can anyone justify the presentation and glorification of these immoral behaviors? How does Disney do so?

Ha, the Big Bad Wolf and the Evil Apple Queen are the "bad guys" in their stories. Making the pirates the "heroes" of the film is a bold and contrary statement.

Judging from box office takings,

Violence is Golden.

Morality has not much place in Philosophy.

I take that back. Morality is a big part of Philosophy... sorry.

Simple: it's FANTASY. Contrary to what a lot of people seem to think, humans are not empty vessels that can be reprogrammed or have our morality erased simply by watching a movie. Any normally-functioning human being knows that this is fantasy. A person so unable to distinguish reality from fantasy should probably be under the supervision of qualified professionals.

Besides, those pirates are pussycats compared to the real thing. Actual pirates in centuries past were far less merciful toward their adversaries and captives. A movie accurately depicting real pirates would probably get a NC-17 rating.

Its just a movie. These are fictional characters. No need to get worked up.

Have you noticed that the movies are rated PG-13, not G? the ratings aren't just for show. There's a reason they exist.

These films aren't for small children. Supposedley, those who view these films are able to tell the difference from fact and fiction. We don't glorify the violence and crime depicted. We are there for the comedy and the science fiction, fantasy, special effects, action sequences, and amusing performances of the actors.

Its just a movie. Suspend your disbelief and enjoy. Unless you're 6, then don't watch it.

Hm...Have we ever notice that the queen is trying to murder Snow White with an Apple? What about Little Red Riding Hood, the Wolf ate her grandma and tried to deceive her? What about Cinderella's abusive stepmother and stepsisters?

These things are everywhere. I propose these fictional exploitation serve with the purpose of preparing our children for growing up. That's why children has nightmares for a certain period of time then they get over it. It's part of growth.

Things just happen like that. A few hundred years ago, everyone hated pirates. Now, when they no long exist, everyone loves them. Sort of like how gangs from the 30's and 40's are glorified in movies as well. I suspect Islamic terrorist will be all the rage in 100 years.

They're PIRATES, fer chrissake! What else do you think pirates do? And, in response to an above, pirates still very much exist. Try moving 500 tons of aluminum through Chinese waters and see what luck you have. As for romanticizing them, well...it's an american tradition. I seem to remember an entire genre of movies romanticizing the butchery of the natives of north america.

I personally don't like swashbuckling movies where people kill and do other violent acts. I think that people justify watching such movies because they see it as fantasy, not something they would ever do in their normal life experience.
