I checked my Q. & found someone had gone thru & thumb down everyone. So rather than rant here is my Q. Do you give a thumb down just because you disagree? What reason would you give a thumb down. Is it not time we got rid of this plaything for the trolls? Thanks for answering.

2 thumbs up for this question...the only time when I give a thumbs down, is when someone is responding with insulting or hurtful remarks to the questioner.

I'm pretty picky about my thumbs ups and downs. I generally only give thumbs up when I read the given answers and someone has already given the answer I would have given myself. Sometimes I give thumbs ups when other people add information that I didn't think of.

I only give thumbs down when someone gives bad information that looks like it might be good information. I presume that the questioner can spot the complete idiots on their own.

Yeah! I'm tired of it too. I had that going for a few days after I gave someone's entirely nasty answer to my question a thumbs down. I noticed that it happens a lot in this section, and on a regular basis to certain people like Enki, for example. Probably it's best to ignore it completely. Those thumbs-down-trolls just want to make your responders feel like you are nasty. I'm going to go give all of your responses that are not nasty a thumbs up now!

It bothers me when someone gives me a thumb down and my reply was right. Sometimes I made some mistake, I read it and I correct it. But it's disgusting when yours is the only one that is right, that someone else gives you a thumb down as if they would know what they are talking about

I give thumbs down based on the quality of the answer. I've given thumbs down to other atheist answer questions about god because I thought they were being overly smarmy or condescending, or just insulting and not answering the question. I will also give thumbs up to answers that, I might not agree with, but have a well thought out answer that makes sense.

Sometimes I like thumbs down, especially when someone tries to make a point by "cleverly" wording a question so that (they think) it can't be answered. I enjoy those thumbs down.

Unfortunately, I mostly give thumbs downs more often than a thumb up just because the people on here give terrible advice. If it's a neutral response or a topic I have no idea about I won't touch it. But when I know someone is wrong (and I can back it up) I thumb down them and maybe add a link in my answer proving what I said.

yeah ive noticed some people like to thumbs down everyone just for fun . I never thumbs down anyone because it might be the answer the person asking the question was looking for

I rarely give thumbs up or down. But I think a thumbs down might be justified for a blaently vicious or offensive reply and a thumbs up if it was a well thought-out and on-target/topic reply.

I only thumbs down answers that are totally in appropriate, like being lewd or no where near answering the question, or spamming. Opinions that differ, I leave alone.
