Or: What makes us HUMAN?

Please relate your answers to the brain, its processes, etc.
Thanks!!

(e.g. is it memory? or intelligence?)

Please defend your answer.

‘Time’, defines the units of existence (hours, days, years, and so on…). Existence only exists as a result of ‘mans’ consciousness. In-other-words, when you pop your clogs existence doesn’t exist. So does time go to the grave with each!

Is love of pleasure or fear of pain the bigger, important motivator in our lives that rules much of what we do?

There is no God or, at the very least, no reason to believe in one. There is an objective reality, but no objective meaning or purpose in the universe. Any meaning a person assigns to his life is limited to himself, and has no objective truth. Life is only an accident of natural processes, and all spiritual experiences can be explained in natural terms. The "soul" is a name given to mere consciousness, and is just the subjective experience of a functioning nervous system. Science is the only tool with which to accrue knowledge of the universe. There are likely limits to what the human brain can grasp, as it has just been selected to help us survive in the world. It is possible that the "big" questions such as, "why is there something instead of nothing", are meaningless, and that the brain is at fault for not being able to comprehend something without an initial cause.

Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that it is OKAY to kill another living thing, but only if it was needed to save your life (to eat, or if they were attacking you). Would it be therefore justifiable to, take the life of millions, maybe billions (humans and/or animals) in order to sustain your own lifespan indefinatly? Please do not bring up religion, as that usually leads to simplified answers like say, "That's not what would Jesus would do", but use actual answers. Keep in mind this is hypothetical.

An old man promised his old friend that he would leave a big part of his fortune to him. He wrote the will and gave it to his lawyer.

One day however, he changed his mind and wrote another will that says that he will leave all his fortune to an old lady friend. However a fire broke out consuming the old man and the will.

So the friend who was first promised the fortune got it.

The question: DID THE OLD MAN KEEP HIS PROMISE TO HIS FRIEND?

or did he break it the moment he wrote the other will?
