Exactly what the guy above said: it shouldn't but it sadly does.
Achieving equality requires hard work and cooperation. Maintaining it is even harder. Equality does entail depriving the "privileged ones" monopoly of the privileges they enjoyed and sharing it with everybody else. Many "privileged ones" would of course resist, so used are they to the asymmetry of privileges. That's why "equality" is not a static state that should be achieved by humanity. It is an ever constant struggle where balance should be maintained.

True equality is impossible, however a balance whereby things even themselves out is possible, but only in certain situations, and that pertains only to groups of people, such as a particular village or a tribe of people confined to a given area, or perhaps in socialism. True equality is closer to natural selection where something is defeated in order to give rise to the next, more capable and dominant species.

The lack of "Equality" is a symptom of ego. Can I sublimate my ego enough to believe you are my equal? It takes practice, practice, practice... and then its still iffy
