Philosophy - March 2007

[Selected]: All categories Arts & Humanities Philosophy

Believers continue with their philosophies, because they have been influenced to do so. Religious philosophies have been around for a long time which helps to influence that it must be correct if it has been by so many generations. A lot of believers also have been raised to be religious and are not going to change, this group tends to be ignorant (ignorant meaning not knowing) to any other ideas. Another group of believers have their philosophies simply, because they are afraid what will happen to them when they die. What it all comes down to is that people have religious philosophies from 50% genetics and 50% environmental influences.

I love flowers, grow many and sell for .10 each. It is amazing, I have been doing this for 12 years, on a card table out front, with money jar. So so so many people over the years of all ages and shapes and sizes love flowers. I'm not sure (except for allergies) I've found anyone who doesn't love flowers, I mean any age group, race, gender etc. I once read "flowers touch the soul" What have you heard or read or experienced. They are like magic in some way. If you do like them ,what do they do for you ? My best compliment came one year I was out front weeding and a 15 year old skate border, very "teen" looking said as he went by and even without looking at me "Nice flowers you've got here" Teens often avoid over 40's and dirty ol' flower ladies but they touched him. I have many apartment dwellers near me who have had to give up their gardens and love to just walk by & enjoy. It blesses them somehow. I tell them, don't thank me, thank God, He created them, I just nurture them

Americans have always had a universal dream ranging from marriage to freedom and of course, money. Some Americans pursue them more carefully than others, while the others just sit and dream. Freedom is exactly what birthed this country, and so many Americans take it for granted. America is one of the richest countries, and still desires more. Even though people say that money won't buy happiness, it just drives us to want more, for more temporary happiness, more property, and more popularity.

Do you think that we reason and then we decide or that we decide with our emotions and then we use our reason to find a rational excuse for what we have decided? Tks

How often do we actually possess all necessary information before making a choice? Or how many times are we right in thinking that we possess true and not false information, before making a specific choice?

(ok, if you do not want "random choice", take "biologically/subconsciously caused choice" instead)

I never see myself as me. A part of me is always extremely careful, very critical of what I say and do. Whenever I talk to someone or meet new people, that part of me is looking at me from across the room. It doesn't allow me to live my life. It defines everything and labels things right and wrong. I never feel like I am actually myself. I feel like I am a reflection of others. My own mind prevents me from being happy. The pessimistic part and the irrational part sometimes takes over. There is always a constant battle. I'm 19 and I don't want to fail college. I'm not getting anything done. My mind doesn't stop.

One of my friends is always saying, "That statement doesn't make sense, so it must not be true." I believe that assertion to be a truth fallacy, but I can't decide the category.
