Every peice of the machine is 'physically connected' so that it requires one peice to "hit" another peice to move it. (Every cause has an effect or vice versa.) Where or how does physics stop and the seemingly immaterial begin?

Electricity is also a physical part of this machine and can't be used as an excuse.

I am a budding writer. I started writing about a story idea that seemed very promising then got totally and completely stuck. My story is a satire about a near future academy which –thanks to a revolutionary surveillance technology-is capable of studying sentient civilizations on distant planets. I created 3 interesting characters(religious female scholar, haughty male scientist, creative male pacifist with whole the religious scholar is in love) and I described the academy, the technology, a few interesting lessons gained from studying other civs, and then I'm out of fuel, unable to invent the struggle necessary to keep all stories interesting. Do you have any suggestions to keep my story going on?Some spice, some struggle or problem that needs to be resolved and gets the reader involved?

One example: When a song is written about you, you know you've made it.

Can you think of any other examples of snowman wisdom?

Great movies aren't just action packed wrestling matches.Real art contains a message. In this movie,a Super power (The Maya empire) is bullying weaker communities (nations) in the name of God (Mayan Gods) and righteousness, and in order to maintain its way of life(maintain enough human sacrifices for the gods). The media in this super power(The blood priest) lies deliberately and sells fear and false dreams to the people to glorify the government(the Mayan king and queen). The bullied communities keep resisting, causing unexpected losses to the super power and keeps it busy and weakened until the time other foreign powers enter the arena(Europeans landing with their ships at the end of the movie)??
Could it be Maya=USA, Iraq=The Indian ravaged village, The Spaniards =China and Russia?
If not, then why that ominous quotation from the great historian Will Durant at the beginning of the movie about great civilizations conquered from within before getting conquered from without?

After explaining and understanding the arguments of justice usd by our greek philospophers, (plato, polemarchus,...) our catholics, (augustine, aquinas,...) our protestants, (calvin, luther,...) and our modern.(hobbes,locke,rousseau...) Then go on to explain what is gained, and what is lost as we move closer to the modern world. And why does smith, who wrote a theroy of moral stentiments, go on to write the wealth of nations as a theory of politcal economy?

I've been thinking about the value of a human life through an agnostic perspective. Does the value of human life vary according to certain factors? Do some people's lives have no value?
For example, does the life of someone who is loved by friends/family, undertakes volunteer work and contributes to society have the same value as a person who has no friends/family, never contributes to anything, and utilises the world's finite resources, and polluting, without care?
Can you say that a person whose existence mattered little, has much value? What gives someone's life value (please respond with a rational non-religious argument)
