I was happiest when I was about ten maybe eleven and camped out in an old bathtub with a good book and a old blanket. It use to be a place they watered the cows when it was a working farm years before but then it was my private sanctuary.

The time I was strongest was when my grandmother had a stroke and aneurysm in her brain. She died and we had to sell the farm and my childhood sanctuary.

I was five years old and lived in the country. It was my birthday and my Mom took me on my first bus ride into the BIG city. I wore a soft blue coat and hat with white fur around it's edge and a white fur muff that my Grandma had made me. I felt like the most beautiful girl in the world. The snow was deep and everywhere and I stared out the window of the bus in awe. When we got off the bus my Grandmother was waiting for us. We stopped in a bakery and had hot co-coa and muffins and then went shopping. I was told I could have whatever I wanted for my birthday. I chose one of those little turtles in the plastic pool with a plastic tropical tree. After that we went to visit my Grandpa in his barber shop and I got to spin around in his barber chair which on any normal day I would not have sat in at all. Such a wonderful day, 45 years later I remember it with a smile. My Mom and Grandma are gone now but their love and memories are with me always.
