If there was a group of people dying, and the only way to save them was to kill the one you love, would you do it?

Would you do it for one other person? For two? How large of a group does it have to be before you would kill the one you love to save them? How many would you sacrifice for your love?

Recently while reading a review of the poet Olena Kalytiak Davis, by Ira Sadoff, which appeared in American Poetry Review, I came across the expression, "the lyrical 'I'." Having googled it, I see it's been mentioned in literature. I keep thinking of Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass. Am I on the right track? Can anyone offer a succinct definition? How does this contrast with the metaphysical problem of 'I'?

Consciousness changes throughout life. If it survives death, does it stay the same as it was at the moment of death, or become something else? If it stays the same and the dead person is a fetus, will it be aware of anything at all? Will the consciousnesses of dead infants be less aware than those of dead adults? Or will they undergo some change that makes the differences in awareness nonexistent or irrelevant?

"...reason now persuades me that I should withold my assent no less carefully from things which are not plainly certain and indubitable than what I would to what is patently false, it will be sufficient justification for rejecting them all, if I find in each one of them some reason for doubt."

This was THE skeptical method to finding absolute truth.

Do you ever tell youself?-- well this set of data is only, merely probable therefore let's pretend that it is absolutely false, so that I can find a firm foundation to my knowledge.

Or is this criterion really contrived and impossible in everyday life?

I'm putting this out there. I was raised a Mormon so I’m arguing what I was taught. I understand your views and opinions will slightly vary from mine but try to stay with me and the big picture.
The reason why we are here is to receive a body and live righteously to return to our heavenly father. Before we were here we were in heaven we progressed as far as we could without receiving a body so that's why we came here. On our trip to earth we passed through a veil and forgot everything we knew about heaven. My question. If there is a god and we are supposed to live righteously why would he give the truth to less than 1% of the worlds population knowing that we are imperfect beings and power brings corruption which the truth can be distorted for personal gain then sent trillions of people (over time) here to try and figure out why we are hear and live righteously to try and return to him? If I were a creator I would put the knowledge out there as a valid source so everyone knew.

...if *another* one of the millions of sperm had fertilized the egg which resulted in your birth....would you still be you inside, and just look different? (and possibly a different sex)....or, would you be another person on the inside as well -- with a different soul and conscience?
