A large number, if not all, of the generation (s) following those harrowing events of 30 yrs ago, have no knowledge of what happened, or the fact that shooting several students with fatalities, ended the nationwide student strike. The people alive at the time either have forgotten completely or pretend no such thing ever happened. The riots actually traveled around the world to Europe and China. (I have recently viewed the famous photos of the dead student in Ohio (Kent State),and read the in-person accounts of Mark Rudd (Ruditsky), who was the Marxist leader in NY.)

My question is about the Truman-MacArthur controversy.. I need to make a thesis of this and my thesis is going to be like

Truman's decision to dismiss MacArthur is a mistake.

Is this like kinda true?? I don't really get the thing. Do you believe that it was a mistake for Truman to fire MacArthur?? then why is it so?? IS there like any historical proof that MacArthur could have help improve the war ? or anything like that?

than Vietnam veterans? I watch war documentaries sometimes on PBS or the History Channel and the WWII veterans seem to have coped relatively well with all the ugliness they say in the war as opposed to Vietnam guys that seem to have a disproportionate amount of post traumatic stress disorder. Are people from the world war II generation just fundamentally tougher?

There must have been a very big motivation considering that 5x more Russians were killed than all of Europe and US casualties combined and considering the fact that they wer directly responsible for 80 - 93% of the German army's casualties. According to Russians, they won WWII. I agree, but thats only because I know the facts.

So what was their motivation for sacrificing so much of their country to defeated the Germans? Doesn't seem like much was in it for them.
