It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

...But I can't find a good book on the subject!

I am seeking information on everyday technologies-- household chemistry, manufacture of goods, agriculture.

I'm less interested in the earthquake-detecting vases, water-clocks, and other "Gee-whiz" inventions, but if the book is good, I'll probably read it.

I want to investigate even further what the average man would have been familiar with, or at least heard of, insofar as tools and machinery goes.

No novels, please.

There are 300,000 nuns who belive that The Virgin is the Christ. They re called the Cult of Mary.
Mary has held on to power 2000 years after her death. Jesus has been dead for 2000 years and his laws are followed by more people than all other mans laws combined. Most laws are modeled after the laws of Augstus Caesars laws. Including Jesus' laws.
This is an impressive accomplishment even in the eyes of an atheist.
