(If you somehow participated in the war or were alive during WWII, I would like to interview you for a few minutes, for a school assignment)

Good luck honey....most of those who were alive or participated in the Second World War may not be surfing the web............most are well over 75 or 80. remember the war ended in 1945......do the math

I agree with the above comment that there are no parallels and your teacher must not know much about WWII. How old is this teacher...22....

Hitler made Saddam look like the tooth fairy!

My father was having oatmeal for breakfast and HIS father -General LH Stevens-four star-got the call. He says he remembers it because his Dad dressed in uniform and went out the door saying-"We're going to war". He joined the Army at the end of the war-by the way, they were in Washington state where the initial calls from Pearl Harbor came in.....
Our going to war in Iraq due to a dangerous and insane murderer are not similar except for the fact that those who kill and oppress their own people as dictators are similar. WWII had so many countries involved and so many areas that is why it was called a WW. Iraq at this point is a study in confusion where we cannot leave due to the vacumn that would be quickly filled by Iran's own dictator. Look at his recent capture of the British sailors---Bush has a inward looking cabinet and though a good man, is very isolated from the real world. I think there is no win involved in Iraq. The bad guy is gone-Bin Laden is elsewhere and our true WWIII will be against terrorism in general rather than a country or a person or regime. Comparing Saddam and Hitler I can see though because its actually documented how he studied Hitler and looked up to him....No war is ever good. War sucks-but the physical world is not perfect and neither is man- it happens. Look at the thousands who died too- modern war is so different now-I think there is no comparison except that it is a war.

No- I was born long after- here are my parrellels though for what it's worth - which allows for more than the 2-dimension spoon-fed "I hate/love Bush because the TV told me to" nonsense.

Put the USA/England in for the role of England/France- it can create a very fun and lively debate as long as the participants are mature, respectful and not outraged that somebody might have the audacity to have a different opinion then them.

A fundamental philosphy (facism) sweeps a turbulent region of the world as a counterbalance to other forms of government seen as either foreign (communist) or weak (democracy)

These forces see themselves in a Darwinian world where might makes right and they must destroy all who do not subscribe to there world view either by birth/race or politics- They believe that above all other people- they are choosen ones- the best- the most valuable- and it is the duty off all others to either be subjagated or exterminated.

The remainder of the world, values peace at all costs- and has no willingness to take action if it will result in bloodshed, making compromise after compromise- in the name of peace, a weakness the belligerant groups use and twist to gain concession after concession- using the traits and desires of the other nations to their advantage with shrewd propaganda and preying on the lack of resolve and inherent decay of the peaceful nations.

The inevitable conflict is delayed and delayed- the ultimatums stalled and stallled- tll the overall situation, and lives at stake grows and grows, compromises made and remade, containment rather then elimination is pursued- till the breaking point is reached and no longer deniable.

A war, larger and more destructive then any other is unleashed, far greater and more devating then what would have occurred had fre nations had the resolve and willingness to face reality, make sacrifices and stand up for what had to be done earlier.
