When you read history books or historical documents (for class or leisure) do you analyze the information based on what you believe to have logically happened, or do you believe the information without question?

Some historical information I believe to have happened due to logic and reasoning. However, most of the time I feel that information and 'facts' have been modified or created to suit certain puposes. What about you?

USA spent enormous sums on "keeping China in the war" even though the Chinese were hardly fighting the Japanese at all. At great expense, America sent the Chinese large amounts of armaments, which fell into Communist hands in 1949.
Britain insisted on invading Italy in 1943 and committed the Allies to a long war of attrition.
Which was more harmful to the Allied cause? What can be said in the favour of either?
If the effort would have been better made elsewhere, where?

During the days of the Spanish Inquisition, how frequent were witch burnings and what was the approximate total death tally?

Also, were their documentations of them burning or torturing very young girls (like prepubescent )? I had a nightmare about that and it was bugging me for a while. If the answer is yes than it will surely affect my view of the Church (which is SUPPOSED to know pure innocence when it sees it!).

Hello. I need to know what the cold war was, how it effected the world, and all that wonderful historical stuff.
I do know it was mostly between the US and the USSR, as the world's two largest superpowers at the time, and I know that the Iron Curtain was put up as a result, or maybe it wasn't? =0.
xD. As you can see, help would be greatly appreciated.
