What is your stance on Croke Park been used for International Football fixtures. There is a lot of outrage considering the massacre that occured. For those that dont remember here it is:
On November 21, 1920 Croke Park was the scene of a massacre by the Auxiliary Division. British police auxiliaries entered the ground, shooting indiscriminately into the crowd killing 13 during a Dublin-Tipperary football match. The dead included 12 spectators and one player, Michael Hogan. The latter, Tipperary's captain, gave his name posthumously to the Hogan stand built four years later in 1924. These shootings, on the day which became known as Bloody Sunday, were a reprisal for the assassination of 12 or 13 British Intelligence officers, known as the Cairo Gang, by Michael Collins' squad earlier that day.

Summarize the most important events or trends of this period, and analyze their consequences. In what ways did these various changes contribute to the transformation of “Medieval” Europe into the beginnings of “Modern” society?

This is for the course called Sports in American History. The paper is due December 4th, so I feel I should start working right now. I checked out some books on Jim Thorpe, footballer, but I don't know how my paper should go. Should I focus on one aspect, for example his influence on politics? I really don't know how I should approach. If you have written this kind of paper, please teach me what other references I need and the like. THanks

Players of Civilization IV will recognise this quote:

"For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return."

Leonardo Da Vinci.

Can anyone give me a source/reference for this quote or did the makers of Civ4 just make it up?

In this day and age of high speed transportation we take it for granted we'll suffer from jet lag if we travel extensively east or west. What I've not seen in the years I've studied history, is a lack of comment on how early explorers dealt with the time changes. Did they notice it or were they keeping to the time as set at home? Ie. It's noon on the time peace but it's midnight where the Captain has sailed his ship.
