Yes i heard it came from France too and that originally it was blue for girls and pink for boys, but by the time Good Wives by Louisa M. Alcott was written (approx 1869 i believe) it had changed to pink for girls, blue for boys. It is referred to when Meg has her twins Daisy and Demi and Amy apparently put a ribbon on each so they could be told apart (the chapter called Domestic Experiences).

apparently it was pink for boys and blue for girls many years ago and somehow it got changed around.
