The politcal conflict between Jugoslavia (now Serbia) and Albania is about a region of Serbia called Kossovo, where lives a majority of albanian people.
But it wasn't only a political conflict, but a real civil war between two ethnic groups, albanians and serbians.
During the '90s, the albanians wanted to separate from Jugoslavia and to be reunited to Albania.
To stop the separatists, the Jugoslavian govt. started a large scale operation of ethnic clean, slaughtering many albanians and destroying their villages.
Then, an albanian resistance movement called UCK started to fight against the Jugoslavian army and the serbian paramilitary units.
This civil war was the main argument in the international meetings' agenda and so, after many warning to Jugoslavia, the UN decided to allow the use of force against Milosevic (Jugoslavian dictator) and asked to NATO to start military operations.
Beograd and many other Jugoslavian industrial and military targets were bombed by NATO's air forces (US, UK and Italian) operating from the Italian air bases.
Soon, the bombings forced Jugoslavia to accept the UN resolutions on Kossovo, which obtained a large autonomy in the Jugoslavian Federation and was occupied by NATO's troops.
Actually, Kossovo is still part of the Republic of Serbia but has a large autonomy; NATO troops are still there (Italian, German, UK and US troops); as a condition for a peaceful solution strongly wanted by the serbians (and accepted by the international community), independence will not be allowed to Kossovo.

Yugoslavia ceased to be a political entity June 5, 2006. Albania seems to have stabilized, and is expected to be invited to join NATO in 2008.
