The correct spelling is 'shillelagh', named after the town in County Wicklow, Ireland. A shillelagh is a club made from the blackthorn bush, or spiny european plum bush.

I have a "Shillelagh" that my grandfather brought from Ireland when he first emigrated. It looks nothing like this. It's a huge
tree root that you can swing around and basically knock people unconscious with, more like a knob of a stick without the stick.

A shilaly is more of a club than a walking stick. A weapon. I also don't think it's spelled that way, but don't know the right way.
