Does Von Der in a name have any significance

2007-06-19 15:08:47 · 4 answers · asked by onedot.darling 4

A win-win challenge, I hope-
What is the link to a favorite library online that has cool genealogical goodies? Hidden treasures?
Newbies, you too can play... if you don't yet have a favorite, try to find if your local library has anything special to offer, or maybe I can nudge you to check out what your State library has. The Texas state archives, for example has a data base of original land grants for the whole state. Note... this challenge is not limited to US sources.
Looking for some smiles. Looking for some "wow, I never thought of that". Something to benefit lots of people.

Is this odd? I don't really take after my parents very much, but I'm like the spitting image of my grandfather. Does it skip a generation?

I am latino. But i found out that one of my grandmother was red haired. So if she had red hair that means shes irish also. But she was puerto rican. If shes irish puertorican. that means shes Irish/native american. because she looked kind of asian like alittle, but with red hair and hazel eyes with very white skin. My dad was born blond and very white skin but he turned tanned and his blonde hair turned black when he got older. and all my grandparents were very light skinned. in fact most of my aunts and uncles look european. One of my grandfather who i know nothing about though. I had a picture of him. My mom told me that he used to travel the world andwhen she was little she was takin away from her dad( my grandfather) and she never saw him again. But i saw his picture and he looks very white also caucasian american like also. However i look almost nothing like my them why is this? I came out born very lightskinned and then i got tanner , but i always had straight soft

My fiance and I have been looking online to see what our family crests look like and so far that's all we've found are sites that you can order items from but they don't have any place where you can search for your crest.

Why are so many of my family missing from the 1901 census? It's a mix of men and women so they can't all be off at a war or something.

I would like to know why certain people abbreviate the first letter of their first name and follow it with their middle name and last name. Some examples include H. Lee Scott, J. Edward Simmons, etc.

I would like to know the reasoning behind it. Also, how would you refer to a person who has done this? By their middle name?

I was wondering if anyone knows how to look up information on a vet. For example, how long they've been practicing and online reviews. I have found nothing on yahoo local or bbb.org.

I am of Latin American decent, therefore I have My name then my fathers then my mothers, ie: Akyer Santos< fathers last name, Igesia<< mothers last name
But my girlfriend (english -Irish) has Her name another 1st name then her fathers name. Cheri Anne McKenny

Explain please. Why do the people of english have 2 first name and no bloodline names for both sides of the family?
Is this why they say sometime that the bloodline for 'some' family name disapears after this one person dies and has no hiers?
Very confused.

Almost history as much as genealogy - some of your US southerner's ancestors or their sisters and brothers took off for Brazil after the Civil War ooops War of Northern Aggression y'all call it. (Are you missing some family/ancestors mmm?) Some also went to Mexico but the end of Emperor Maximilian was the end of their stay.

Do you have any (brief) yarns to tell about any of them in your family to share?
