there are coats of arms for many families, and im sure some are a good example of what the original was. but i also know that alot of pseudo-genealogist will just make up the coats to make money.
how do we tell the difference, and what do the symbols represent?

what were our ancestors trying to say about the family when they chose the symbols?

for example do the stars of david, roses, harps, and the shofar on crests represent judaism?
do fish and ships represent seafaring families?
do lions represent english names?
does the fleur de lis represent a close french background?

how much can we trust them, and can the real ones really give us some insight to our family heritage?

He says they are from the Algonquian nation, and I continously find things that say that Algonquian is a language they spoke, nothing about a 'nation' per say. I would like to physically talk to someone from this tribe as well, thanks , i have googled this, and got tons of history on how it came to be, but i need to know how to find out if he is generally a 'native american'. thanks

i have done my genealogy religiously for some time now, and i know quite a bit. but why
we as americans, especially those if us whose family goes back a while in america, have a hard time identifying culturally. admit it, i do. we are so mixed with different family members of different nationality that we dont know who we can relate to.
whether you are decended of germans, irish, french, jews, native indians, we are all just looking for identity and knowledge.
do you agree, what are your reasons for genealogy? is it just to know, or are you looking for something in your family to be proud of.
being an american is alot to be proud of, but in such a diverse nation we want to be included in a group or two.
what do you think???

Okay my relative is my cousins daughter, but she is older than me by about 5 months.. Her grandmother is my aunt though. My grandmother had about 13 children so some are about 60 to 30 years old. She claims that we are 2nd cousins is that correct?

I'm having trouble finding Hungarian ancestors. My dad is full blooded Hungarian, and he was born and raised there and speaks the language. The reason i'm having trouble with this is because he doesn't remember anything about his grandparents because both of his mom's parents died b4 he was born and his dad's parents died when he was only 4 or 5. Where can I find info on them? I've tried everything and it's also very hard to find anything on our last name.

I would like to trace my family. I know my mother and fathers parents name. My mom is still living but, my father passed away a few years ago. I may have a problem on my fathers side though. His mom was a full blooded Cherokee indian. I was told they didn't keep records. My grandfather was from Louisiana. I heard that on my mothers side her family is some how kin to the Queen of English. Can anyone tell me if there is any kind of software I can buy to do my family tree on the computer? I am kind of limited to traveling because, I am in a wheelchair. Thanks

How does this work? My children have a Jewish paternal grandfather. Would that part of their heritage be picked up along with their Irish, Scotch, German, and Hungarian origins from my side? Please, someone who knows something on this topic, thank you!
