I know my mom's side. My dad's side, though, is what I want to know. My dad doesn't know much about it, and whenever I ask my grandfather, he just tells us "My dad came from Armenia" and changes the subject because he's embarrassed his family came from the Middle East.

I have a strange last name and only my grandfather's first name to go by. Where should I start?

Oh, and I can't pay for anything, either!

i tried asking people about our origins, or family stories. but everyone has their own version of things.

for instance, my mom and my aunty say that my great-great-grandfather came from syria. my other aunty says it was my great-grandfather (not 2greats) who was from syria. and my grandfather says that it wasn't syria at all, but lebanon!

and then some relatives say we are part french, and others say no, we are not. how did everything get so mixed-up? shouldn't people know about their own family? why can't people just tell the truth?

so how do i find out for certain our origins? this has been bothering me for quite some time now.

Is there a website that's safe to put names into, and one that's free so I can figure out my family tree?

This site has logged over a million profiles since it started less than a year ago. They are out to stop myspace and get adults away from kids. Anyone else know of this site?

ok to begin, at first blush im Eritrean. But it doesnt end there.
for example, i KNOW i must have gotten ancestry genes from the colonizers (italy) and first ancestors of Yemen. OK, My mom is European coloured, AND SO is her dad...there technically both white coloured or euro coloured...my dad is not black coloured, but he is brown....My grandpa weirdly has blue eyes (moms dad), and i dont know to much bout my dads side...lol..i look exactly like my mom, except im a lil darker, im light brown, (i get dark in the summer), but my original colour is like yellowish brownish on my arms (not exposed to sun)...my features are also not "black features" such as big lips, wide noses and kinky hair,....i have normal sized lips, and stright thin nose, and alot of ppl mistaken me for other cultures....im just wondering,
as a result of the Italian colonization that happened from like 1840-1940, there must of been a mix of some sort...Can anyone tell me ancestry of Eritrea, as far back and accurate

Her name was Elizabeth Louise Goins and was in a Tennessee orphanage with her sister Jewel Goins. They later went to Muskogee, Oklahoma where they are both buried. We have been told since we didn't have a cherokee # to identify us, we have no recourse insofar as what we are entitled to as her heirs. I have a living mother and uncle and 3 cousins and for years we have been trying to find out what our rights and benefits are. Please help us in this endeavor.

There was a man who lived in Galicia in the 1700's who was a big Rabbi and his name was Yaakov (Jacob) Reischer. His father was Yoseph (Joseph) Riescher. Yaakov died in 1733 and is buried in the town of Metz.

How can I find out who his children were? I have curcumstantial evidence to suggest I am a descendant of this guy and I have traced my family history back to about 1850. I want to try and work my way down the tree from him.

Any suggestions?

My mother always said her dad was of half french and half scotttish ancestry. I have done some geneology research and discovered that the "French" ancestors actually came from Germany or Prussia in the late 1700's to the early 1800's.

One of them was born in Wurttemberg in 1730 and died in Kentucky in 1804. Another was born in Prussia in 1790 and died in Indiana in 1880.

Why would my mom be lead to believe she was 1/4 French if she was really 1/4 German?
