Found this at www.familysearch.org. Says he was born elsewhere in Kansas. Can't find info about his parents other than their names, or part of his siblings (found one--Herman).

go to ancestry.com and look at the cencus. i looked at 1930, found my great grand parents, and went back from there. they charge, but have a free trial period. cancel before the end of the trial period to aviod charges. you can also go to the morman church. they are really big on family roots.
