There was a man who lived in Galicia in the 1700's who was a big Rabbi and his name was Yaakov (Jacob) Reischer. His father was Yoseph (Joseph) Riescher. Yaakov died in 1733 and is buried in the town of Metz.
How can I find out who his children were? I have curcumstantial evidence to suggest I am a descendant of this guy and I have traced my family history back to about 1850. I want to try and work my way down the tree from him.
Any suggestions?

I would suggest trying Ellis Island. I'm sure you may have already, but it's a place to start.
I would contat a librarian in Metz. If this man was a Rabbi, I'm sure he may have been mentioned in the newspapers. Someone might be able to check out past news or there may even be a genealogy stuck somewhere in their library.

I checked rootsweb family files, and find persons with this name in Pennsylvania in the early 1700s.
Do you have documentation that links you to this town? If not, I strongly suggest that your approach can be unreliable. I can't tell you how often people struggle to find a connection that isn't there, while if they continue to verify back from themselves, they can be sure of their conclusions.
