I'm having trouble finding Hungarian ancestors. My dad is full blooded Hungarian, and he was born and raised there and speaks the language. The reason i'm having trouble with this is because he doesn't remember anything about his grandparents because both of his mom's parents died b4 he was born and his dad's parents died when he was only 4 or 5. Where can I find info on them? I've tried everything and it's also very hard to find anything on our last name.

My dad was also the first one in his family to come to America.

He also left during the 1956 Revolution when he was around 19 years old. He was in the military there.

There is a parish register system in Hungary.
If they were baptized there is a writing about it.
The parents name can be found on these writings.
Professionals who looks for your family tree use it as the most important sources.
It is hard to find because it is a distributed and not centralized and paper based database.

First you have to find the city your ancestors lived.

Anyway the best to reunion the family if you learn Hungarian.
Hopefully after you have learned the language you will learn the way of thinking as well.

Have you tried this site?

How to reunion the family? Be a great-grandparent and organize big-big family parties. Oops and one more important thing:
Don't forget your great-grandsons names :D

If they came through Ellis Island, there is a web site to explore that. And, probably the spelling was changed, which may be bogging you down. Good luck. There is a site, called Reunion.com, that I believe deals with ancestry is other countries. I get an email from them, because my family came from England. It is a pay site. One that you might try which is free, is www.ancientfaces.com. You can post pictures there, and maybe someone will recognize your father and contact you.

This site may have tips and leads. Since your dad speaks the language, that may be of huge help.
