Yes, yes, yes. =)
Check this site out: http://www.dna.ancestry.com/welcome.aspx
It runs about $200 dollars and the info is there. It's a great project.

Yes it is possible. It costs a fair amount of money. Certainly several hundred, maybe a couple of thousand. There have been a lot of reports of research projects based on it.
BUT - you have chosen perhaps the worst categories to worry about or be interested in.
What does "uniquely English" mean? Where would one find a pool of pure Roman to compare you with? The Vikings (Scandanavians) invaded England repeatedly and also invaded Normandy. The Saxons were there but probably had Roman "blood" in their lines.
DNA "racial" matching involves having a stable population sample to test against, such as Eastern European Jews or various Tribes in Africa. There is probably a better chance of determining if you have genes from Attila the Hun than if you are "pure" Anglo-Saxon to the correct degree.

If you are not from a very remote area in Mongolia or a year around snowed village in the alps, you will be disappointed. You may have a lot of different ancestries mixed up in your DNA. All our DNA can be traced back to some early humans from 60,000 years ago and then spreads out like butter in the sun. They found a 6000 year old male mummy in a bog in England, who's DNA is today in 34% of the English population. And there is no such thing as uniquely english. I would look for my immidiate ancestors, maybe 3 - 4 generations back, that's fun.

Yes and no. A DNA test will reveal your haplogroup. The haplogroup markers are passed directly from father to son so whatever haplogroup you show will be the same as what your ancestors were hundreds of years ago. You ask if you are only English and then mention other ethnic groups. English, Roman, Scandinavian and Saxon are not races they are different subgroups within the caucasian race. If you are English you are most likely a mix of insular celtic and several continental germanic groups.

What an excellent question! Have a star!
This is something I find fascinating. I would love to have the test done, I think I will later on.
You'd want to know about both the maternal & paternal sides of your DNA though, or else half the picture will be missing.
Men have both the X & Y Chromosome, so they can have the male & female sides of their DNA tested. But women only have the X Chromosome, (female side), so to test their paternal ancestry (male side) they would have to do that through their father or brother.
The next time my other half asks what I want for Christmas or my birthday, I will know what to say! A DNA test!

there is no such factor in any respect stated as racial DNA checks. they're stated as DNA ancestry checks at they estimate from the haplogorups that are pointed out via the two Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), Y Chromosones DNA (Y-DNA) or Autosmal DNA. mtDNA is from mom to baby, Y-DNA is from father to son and Autosomal is from mom and dad to baby. each and every person can get a Mitochondrial DNA or Autosomal DNA attempt yet purely men can get a Y Chromosones DNA attempt. What they seem for is for particular mutations connecting you to an pointed out haplotype and that they then connect that it to a geographic area and term from that then you are able to attempt and guess the race eg mandatory Africa 10,000 years in the past = black or Northern Europe 10,000 years in the past = white. you are able to in no way get a hundred% of your ancestry and it relatively is all estimates and racial smart it relatively is guess artwork. people who inform you otherwise are packed with shlt. My DNA ancestry checks blanketed 40 two% East African, 50% mandatory-Southern African and eight% close to jap (South West Asia) and those have been estimates none the fewer imprecise in my eyes. EDIT No actual attempt effects inform you youre seventy 5% Black 25% White it relatively is utter bullshlt and American media being as dumb because it relatively is has many people lie to into questioning otherwise. EDIT 2 do no longer ask in this section serioulsy it relatively is crammed with idiots ask interior the family contributors tree section for greater precise solutions.

Here's a news article on such a service: http://www.raceandhistory.com/cgi-bin/forum/webbbs_config.pl/noframes/read/1072
I don't know how available this is in the UK, but there are a few TV programmes that seem to have access to racial DNA testing; and the results have been surprising and, in some cases, devastating for people who thought they were pureblood Brits (a bit like Lucius Malfoy finding out his great uncle was a dentist).
I would be fascinated to discover my own racial origins too. You could begin with internet research on your blood group (ignore anything that tells you you're descended from alien reptiles). Start here: http://www.bloodbook.com/world-abo.html (scroll down to the table)

and good luck.

There is a website which the BBC used to determine ancestors for their programme regarding extreme genealogy, it is quite expensive though. The link is:
http://www.oxfordancestors.com/
There is also another company which is in the US, the link is:
http://ancestrybydna.com/welcome/euro2.0/index.php
I think that the fist link may be easier for you as you are in the UK.
Good luck!

Yes you can. In the UK it costs about £295 and you can get the service through ancestry.co.uk. I would love to have mine done too but it is far to expensive for me.
