My family traces back to Europe.
Are there any websites which can atleast guide me to SOME information about my ancestors.

Kindof like Census?

I've been looking at census's, and in one my ancestor is listed as having come from "setmurther" in the 1850s. I assume the census-taker misheard, and wrote down what he thought she said.

Question: Does anyone know of anywhere which sounds a lot like Setmurther? :o)

I got back the "Y" DNA gene markers on a separate sheet, the "Mitochondrial" DNA gene markers on a separate sheet, and Map of the World with shaded areas on it. Is there an easy way to tell what the DNA markers correlate with? E.g., "Marker XYZ" is Mediterranean (or African, or Native American, etc. in origin).

I want to find my father. I haven't seen or spoken to him in years. I believe he was born in Texas in 1959. When we were last in contact he lived in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. His wife's name is/was Mary. In addition to me, he has a daughter named Sara and a son named Jay. Can anyone help?

My great-grandfather and his first wife parted company, and while she was still alive he took another 'wife', my great-grandmother. The children should have had her name and not his. Any others with another surname, now sanctioned by time, and how did it happen?

By coincidence they're both famous Civil War surnames, so if I added the other surname it would make me look like some Civil War buff.
