Here are some sites that might help you. From your description, it is difficult to tell if a person could be searched for by the name you gave or if there is an adoptive name.
Try Zabasearch too. There are 12 Eric McBee entries in the USA.
The last resort, would be private investigations.

I went ahead and checked that site, nobody born in Lancaster, California with that birth date has registered.
Also you might register with TxCare.org.
Yes, it's mainly for Texas born adoptees, but many other people from other states post there too.
