I got back the "Y" DNA gene markers on a separate sheet, the "Mitochondrial" DNA gene markers on a separate sheet, and Map of the World with shaded areas on it. Is there an easy way to tell what the DNA markers correlate with? E.g., "Marker XYZ" is Mediterranean (or African, or Native American, etc. in origin).

Hey Cheap Booze,

The Mitochondrial test is strictly for your maternal line. The markers are matched to other people tested, and they only way that a correlation to a location is established is through accumulated knowledge of human migration. The markers are not like GPS coordinates, except that you match to other people, who happen to originate in an area.

There are many faults with DNA still. For example my biggest complaint is that you can only get 1 ancestral line, the Surname, or the Maternal line. The combination of hundreds of other contributors to your Gene pool, don't even get put into the mix.

Creating your Family Tree as accurate as possible is much more informative and gives a clear picture of where you really come from. If you do a Paternal and Maternal DNA test, you have 2 branches that you may find matches to. After 6 Generations, there are 64 contributors to your Gene pool, and you have only traced 2 with DNA. A few generations more, and it seems insignificant, with respect to contributors to who you are, and where you come from.

See the last site for a graphic example of this, it shows the paternal test but notice that only one connection to the previous generation is made. So, clearly most of your genetic content is being missed.

There are 3 people that have had DNA tests in my Family Tree, and it is helpful information for the ancestral line that they are in, it helps confirm relationships, and facts, or belief that the facts are correct. The point is that Genealogy is a balance of evidence and proof in each ancestral branch.

I don't know if you're making all of this up or if this is truly how you are feeling. If this is made up, it's not funny. If this is truly how you are feeling, you need to talk to your parents (1. it's respectful to tell them how you are feeling and 2. they will help you if you tell them!) Do not feel ugly, dear! Many people your age have acne. It is usually caused by bad foods (lots of candy or greasy foods can make you break out!) and stress (being overweight, feeling bad about yourself, and school cause this!). There's a super cheap way to make your acne dry up. Put a small amount of toothpaste (about as much as you would use to brush your teeth, or a little more) on your finger and put it on your skin. It will feel tingly/burn-like but it will not hurt your skin. You can do this every few days (I wouldn't do it more than that lol) or once a week. Also, stay away from pop/soda (even decaf and diets!) and candy. Excersize. Participate in gym and take daily walks outside of school. Your father is right! You are beautiful! Do not feel ugly! It is a lie jealous people feed people! Those that call you names hate themselves worse than you are hating yourself. They believe if they hurt others then they won't feel so terrible about themselves. This is a disturbing LIE! You have no reason to hate yourself!!! You are God's creation and anyone calling you names is a friend of the Father of Lies not God. Do not listen to these terrible people, dear! I highly recommend you tell your father how you feel. Regardless of his income, he can help you. HE LOVES YOU. If he did not love you, he would not tell you that you are beautiful. He can see that you are hurting so he is making it a point to tell you he loves you the way you are and believes you are the prettiest girl. Great fathers are like this; you should feel blessed! These kids who insult you do not have loving parent(s) or they would not act the way they do. Talk with your father and he will do everything he can to make you feel better about yourself. There is no reason for you to die or want to die. Anne Frank was held in a concetration camp as a teen and she wrote the most beautiful thing while there-- “Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy.” Do just that. And do yourself and those around you a favor and speak with your dad. You deserve happiness. Suicide is serious. Seek help please. Edit: Other facial cleansers that are cheap: St Ives, Queen Helen's Mint Julep masque (once a week masque that clears you right up!). The other posters have been helpful, listen!! :)

I think what you are looking for is called a haplotype, which is determined from the Y-dna. Some companies require an additional test to be purchased in order to find out which haplogroup you belong to. (called a backbone snp)

Y-DNA haplogroups

A Y-DNA haplogroup is defined as all of the male descendants of the single person who first showed a particular SNP mutation. A SNP mutation identifies a group who share a common ancestor far back in time, since SNPs rarely mutate. Each member of a particular haplogroup has the same SNP mutation.

mtDNA haplogroups

An mtDNA haplogroup is defined as all of the female descendants of the single person who first showed a particular polymorphism, or SNP mutation. Like Y-DNA SNP mutations, an mtDNA SNP mutation identifies a group who share a common ancestor far back in time.

The company you bought it from should have either a web site or an instruction booklet. Mine (FamilyTreeDNA) had both.
