I am a guy who's pretty new at this ballroom dance thing, and I just started taking lessons at Arthur Murray, so I was wondering if anyone knows of any good places for young (21-35ish) adults to ballroom dance around the southeastern MI area. I've only been taking lessons for 1 month, so I only know the basics, but I still would like to practice, and possibly meet other people my own age and skill level, and outside of the studio, I don't know of many regular ballroom dance places.

Mine are to have all three splits by june and a better back bend by september! I also what to join a more advanced ballet class sometime this year and be good enough to dance with my studio in our local christmas parade in november. What are your goals for the new year?

2007-01-07 07:24:44 · 10 answers · asked by Sarah 4

Most people say it should take less than a year to get the splits if you work at it enough. So how long might it take to get a back bend good enough to the point where I can touch my butt to my head if I work on it a lot? I know I can't get an exact answer because everyone is different, but would it probably take more than a year or less? Right now I'm about an inch away from touching my feet to my head if I lay on my stomach.

There's a belly dancing studio near my new house and I was thinking about going there but I am not really into dancing. I'd only do it if I knew it was going to help me lose weight and feel better about myself. Anyone who has belly danced, did you find that it helped you lose weight and tone up?

My eighth grade daughter wants to try out for her high school drill team this spring. She has taken ballet from ages 3 to 9, took a break from dance to try sports, and is now enrolled in Jazz 1. Girls with dance team experience, what classes do you recommend to prepare her for doing her best in tryouts?
What does she need to focus on?
Finally - what was your experience like? I know the committment is huge, and it can be very costly ...please share your comments and tips.
Thanks!
