I live in the southern United States and we learn square dancing in elementary school, middle school, and high school. I was wondering if it was like that everywhere.

Well, it isn't exactly a course. In elementary/elementary school you learn it in gym class....in High School Arts and Humanities is a required course, and they teach it in that among other things.

well i graduated high school in 1995 from a school in south jersey. while we didnt have it at the high school level beyond freshman yr i do remember it in elementary and middle school. i hated it too bc it was sooo damm basic steps of square dancing and i have been square dancing and clogging since i was 4yrs old! it was boring to me and the gym teachers didnt kno how to square dance either other than dosodo! kind of a waste of time in my opinion. it was usually done during the rainy or winter season up here in the north during gym classes.

I'm from the south and have lived here all my life. We never had square dancing when I was in school and not even now that I'm out. Interesting course to take though. We had bowling when I was in highschool for PE though.

I went to school in the South too---but we didn't learn anything like that. It isn't our dance where we come from, rather clogging (the precursor to Irish stepdancing.) We didn't do either in school.
