At our high school we have done "Christmas in the Park" kinda plain and boring sounding I know but the decorating was GREAT! We had close to 50 live christmas trees in the gym and we had fake snow everywhere and it just looked like a park at christmas time. It was pretty cool.

We've also did one that was decorated like a Grandmas house with the christmas trees and rocking chairs and presents & a working fireplace as the picture backdrop. Our theme was "Over the River & Through the Woods" like the song...and they played that while we were having our christmas dance grand march.

Hope these ideas help.

How about a tropical theme like the Caribbean or Mexico. Everyone where's bright shirts/dresses.
Or reverse Christmas in July and have a 4th of July type picnic in January.

What about Narnia - where it's always winter and never Christmas. You could have a lamppost as a central point in the decorating, etc. It is wintery without being too overdone.

expanding on Adriana's idea ...which is fantastic ...why not have the entrance to the gym be the wadrobe ... so when you enter ... you enter into a mystical winter fantasy
