I wrote a short story that everyone who has read it says should be published, and rejection should be accepted at first..& I should submit it many times.

I'm leary of publishers who want to 'steal' your work, and want a list of very reputable publishers. Can anyone provide this?

....its called it wasnt mine to give

I gave my love to you,
only it wasnt mine to give.
I gave it freely
with my soul
so i once again could live.

You took my being,
my dreams my blood my life,
and we held our skin so close.

I handed over my heart to you
when I said i would be your wife
within five years he came back
my first love to take me home.

i was torn between my heart and head
and my thoughts came resounding back
to the days those very special days
when he first took me to his bed.

my two men that caused me pain
and took my lifeless soul
it was me choosing now
but i walked out on my own

25 years and one score ten
my men are buried deep
i cry and cry my loves have gone
this old woman had nothing left to reap.

i weep of a life that was mine
i never knew which one to keep
a life gone by that only i have destroyed
now all i do these long long days is weep...

i gave my love to both of you.....only it wasnt mine to give.

I remember the main character was a girl from the highlands who was in a war, ended up a prisoner in a harem for years and then escaped and returned to scotland and found her husband when she was older. Her husband had to war horses named Belg & Iolare. The cover had a castle on a cliff with the sea

I lost my best friend and God mother to my daughters 3 yrs ago so i wrote this poem what do you think of it?

What is making me feel so angry again, why am i crying for something so much, it is hurting i dont like this feeling that i have inside of me. I'm missing something in my life and it will never be replaced i know, but is there no way i can be away from this sadness, this loss i so grieve. Why did you take her away from me when she was so important to me, my friend, has gone, gone forever and she will never come back to me. I dream of her, its like shes here, but when i wake i cry as she is not near.
I want to hear her laughter, her kind tender words, but instead there is a silence and nothing to be heard. Goodbye my friend rest in peace, you will be in my mind always and forever, i love you.

I have a book of Shakespeares female characters written by a Lady Martin, who I believe was one of Queen Victorias Lady In waiting.

On the fly leaf of this book is written
October 21st 1895. 1805 (must be the time)
Lewgars...there is a black and white etching of a very large house.
Kinsbury. N.W. London

It is followed by the words: 'An Impromptu to Edie'

Hail! to the day that years gone bye took "Him" who dies for love and duty, yet gave to Earth with one sweet sigh, The Village maid and the "Spinster" beauty. Signed Bulti

Does anyone know:

What Lewgars was;
Who was Edie;
Where did the verse come?

A tall order I know, but I have tried to research this myself and have come up against a brick wall. But I feel sure that someone must have an idea about this.

I would be so grateful is someone has any knowledge as it has been bugging me for years.
