For what purpose does Chopin include minor characters such as Adele Ratignolle and Mademoiselle Reisz? Is Edna similar/different? How?

It's about a reporter looking for a couple of scientists who reportedly found immortality. It turns out that the scientists found immortality through the bacteria in the gut of some fish but by the time the reporter finds them the scientists have lived so long that they became chimps. Any ideas?

Before you answer, consider the fact that you cannot argue that the mind is inside your physical head. It so happens that the brain, the seat of our intelligence, is in the physical location. But what has that to do with the location of the mind?

Think about the question as well as your response before answering. Please provide justification for your opinions.
