It's about a reporter looking for a couple of scientists who reportedly found immortality. It turns out that the scientists found immortality through the bacteria in the gut of some fish but by the time the reporter finds them the scientists have lived so long that they became chimps. Any ideas?

Sounds like Michael Cricton's Fountain of Youth. Also a short story by Larry Niven...The Fourth Profession, I think.

No, but I have seen on CNN where people like Geraldo actually are chimps. It's amazing. Maybe the book wasn't science fiction?
