sensitivity - the sentsitivity of a symptom is the probability that the symptom is present given that the person has a disease.

specificity - the specificity of a symptom is the probability that the symptom is not present given that the person does not have a disease.

suppose the disease is lung cancer and the symptom is cigarette smoking. if we assume 87% of people with lung cancer and 20.9% of people without lung cancer are smokers. what are the sensitivity and spesificity in this case? can cigarette smoking be used as a diagnostic tool for predicting lung cancer? why?

I have been taking anti depressants for 10 years now and would dearly love to come off them.I have attempted withdrawal several times unsusscessfully.Has anyone taken antidepressants for as long as me or longer and manaaged to withdraw sucsessfully. If so what drug were you taking ( I am taking prozac), what method of withdrawal did you use and how long did it take to finally come off.? I am working with my doctor on this but I would love to hear other peoples experiences. I need some hope and inspiration Thanks

In my left ear I have a little scab and its VERY painful to the touch. before it was just wax build up but i cleaned that out. now its returned but like a full on scab and my ear feels kind of like its bruised and its super painful. What could it be?

As an older person do you have nice quiet neighbours next door or do have neighbours from hell. I have young couples with young children either side of me. I never hear them. They keep an eye on me. They do not intrude in any way. One day I left my front door open after looking at the garden. Quite soon there was a knock and a voice calling "are you OK" Also after a bad storm they knocked to see all was OK.. Are you all as lucky with your neighbours? Can't get this in the senior citizens category.

one foggy midnight as billy was driving home from the forest, his car died in the middle of nowhere. he got out and checked what was up, upon opening the hood, he saw that everything was okay,& his gas was still half full. he had goose bumps as the chilly wind blew. then suddenly, an old hermit with a long graying beard appeared near an old willow tree behind his car.

the hermit approached billy and told him to buy the book he was holding for $100

billy said it was too expensive but then the chilly wind blew even harder..so he bought it..before leaving the hermit said "never ever open the last page of this book or else you will regret it!" with that the hermit disappeared

billy got in his car and suddenly, the car started...billy was weirded out but he went home..

at home,billy couldn`t sleep, he kept on wondering what was on the last page of the book..after an hour of thinking he couldnt take it anymore so he flicked to the last page, and there it read:
"BOOK SALE $0.75"

Hi, Thanks a lot for your attention to my question. I want to know that which model of Intel Pentium 4 proccessors has same usage and performance with AMD Authlon 64 (Not FX serie). I want to know that which type of Intel Pentium 4 proccessors (Like 2.0GHz, 2.4Ghz, 3.2Ghz, etc) is equals or same to AMD Authlon 64.

I have a system which has a AMD Authlon 64. When I use the software named "SiSoft Sandra Version 2004", It gives me that the speed of my CPU is 2.01GHz, but the administrator told me that CPU is 3200. (He didn't told me 3200 what?! He didn't told me any unit for 3200 and I think it's normally the frequency of the CPU),

And at last I think this would be useful that my MainBoard supports excess to 3000+ core frequencies, And I'am using a 32-bit version of Microsoft Windows XP, Is it possible that the cause of this low speed (2.01GHz) of cpu and the reason of the fallback (Falling of Frequency in manner of incompatibility of MainBoard and the CPU)?
