I know that CA is notorious for being overpriced. But, it's so beautiful so I'd consider moving there if there are nice places that are not as expensive there. Know of any?

The husband isn't very adventurous when it comes to food (for example, won’t do Indian) and I don’t eat any meat except fish. I’d prefer to avoid the nationwide type of chain restaurants.

I'm planning a move in about a year and a half to San Fran. Can anyone suggest either a good/somewhat affordable apt. complex to me? Any tips about moving to Cali from Ohio? This isn't going to be a spur of the moment move, so any planning advice would be great. Also, if you're familiar with the living style of the area, would what you say an income should be to live comfortably? THANKS!!

Guys,

I will traveling to SF downtown on the evening of Oct 23rd. Got rsvp at

Crowne Plaza Hotel
SAN FRANCISCO-UNION SQUARE
480 SUTTER ST
SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94108

But I don't want to pay for the $40 parking per night. Yes, because I am cheap. :) Is there street parking or even another parking garage that I can use? I will need to park around 8pm to 10am. Perhaps the sutter/stockon garage??

thx!

I just moved to Nob Hill and don't have a car to go very far. I am looking for something close (Ikea too far), convenient, with a nice selection fo affordable furniture, and the store must also deliver. I don't want cheap, crappy furniture - nice modern stuff that I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for. Any suggestions?

Currently I live in Madison Wisconsin. I am thinking of relocating to one of the following areas: Rockridge/Berkeley/Piedmont (or Lake Merritt). I would WORK in San Fran in the I.T. industry, but live in the aforementioned area.

Currenly I make about $38k/year in Madison.
My rent is $500/month for a studio
My car payment is $350/month.
(plus some other small bills and living expenses - cable, internet, etc).

I do really well on this wage in Madison. By the time I relocate to East Bay, my car will be paid off, freeing up the $350/month.

I plan to find a bigger studio apartment in one of these areas and continue working in I.T. in San Fran.

Can someone tell me how the 2 wages would compare, and if I would be able to afford what I am planning to do? Keep in mind that I will have an extra $350/month to spend by the time I'm there.
Is my plan feasible?

I make about $38k per year in Madison Wisconsin working in I.T. I dont have many bills. My rent is about $600. Besides some other smaller bills, I do just fine financially and usually have enough money left over to have fun.

Will this be comparable in Rockridge or Berkeley or Piedmont if I find an (studio) apartment for about $750? and is this reasonable for a studio? I know its more expensive to live in East Bay than it is in the midwest, but isnt the pay range higher out there too, so it evens out?

How will I do?

Has anybody stayed in a hostel before? I was just wondering what it would be like. Do you have to be from a different country to stay in a hostel in the US? Because I would like to travel to a few different states but i can't afford a regular hotel room.

Does anyone know how to beat a toll violation incurred on the bay bridge?
We're driving a rental from Los Angeles to check out UC Davis this past week. Living in Los Angeles did not prepare us to anticipate a toll bridge. My wife and I are both dissabled persons so neither of us carry extra casgh in the car.
So as wee approach the toll booth we are frantically looking for loose change, anything to give the toll person, we'd forgotten about the $2.00 in half dollar coins I'd put in a special compartment
for just such an occassion. I'm a TBI surv! go figure.
So we're given a paper that states that we've committed a toll violation and are allowed to pass. The bigger problem is that we're in a rental and cannot afford to pay the rental Co. fees on top of the amount on deposit for the week's car rental.
So" Here's my question"
"Can we mail the city of SFO a M/O for $3.00 and call it even?
