Besides the facing East issue is the fog issue. Most mornings in SF are foggy. This week has been glorious. I love the waterfront, down on the bay close to the Ferry building. Grab some pastries and coffee and watch as the sun comes up over the east bay hills and the sunlight creeps down the highrises and spreads back across the bay towards Oakland. If the fog is in as usual, you have to head East. Tilden Park above Berkeley has some great views to the east across briones reservoir. But even there you have fog issues most days. Your next stop is Mt Diablo. You need a real early start to get up the hill but the view goes on forever to the Sierras. Have fun.

Sunrise - Maybe Twin Peaks - The sun rises over the bay, so anywhere that has a good eastern view.

For a sunset, where better than Ocean Beach or Baker Beach. I think the Aquatic Park, near Ghiradelli, has a nice view of the Golden Gate and the sunset.

Sunrise is nothing special. There is nothing very pretty to the East. Try Treasure Island for both sunrise and especially sunset. It is located in the middle of the Bay and can be accessed via the Bay Bridge. You have excellent views of SanFrancisco from there and the Golden Gate. Sunsets are amazing there.

The top of a hill! Since the sun rises in the east, it's pretty hard to see, here on the west coast!

Perhaps you could get an east-facing room at the Mandarin-Oriental...they're at the top of a high-rise, so the view from there would be good.

For sunset, anywhere on the ocean (not necessarily the bay). It might actually be nice to drive across the Golden Gate Bridge to catch thew view from the Marin Headlands.
