Guys,

I will traveling to SF downtown on the evening of Oct 23rd. Got rsvp at

Crowne Plaza Hotel
SAN FRANCISCO-UNION SQUARE
480 SUTTER ST
SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94108

But I don't want to pay for the $40 parking per night. Yes, because I am cheap. :) Is there street parking or even another parking garage that I can use? I will need to park around 8pm to 10am. Perhaps the sutter/stockon garage??

thx!

Agree with all of the above.

You are really better off without a car in San Francisco. It's like New York here, you don't need one, and it is a very expensive burden. If you are flying in, just take a SuperShuttle or BART in from the airport. If you are driving in from somewhere nearby, better to leave your car at one of the major east bay BART stations and BART into the city.

If you really insist on bringing your car, then for heaven sakes just pay the hotel for their valet parking. High risk that your car will be broken into if you leave it overnight under Union Square or down by Bloomies. Sutter Stockton is safer, but does not cost much less than your hotel. Do NOT try to park on the street -- if your car ends up in a corrupt San Francisco impound lot it will take days and cost you hundreds of dollars to get it back. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish!

Sutter/Stockton Street garage is $33.00 a day, so you won't save much.

You can park under Union Square itself for $25.00 a day, or the Bloomingdales/Metreon lot on Mission Street for $22.00 a day. Though this might mean hauling your luggage through throngs of people to get to your hotel, as the shopping center and Union Square are typically very crowded.

There's no street parking Downtown.... the ever vilgilant SFPD even fines folks for blocking traffic, and god forbid if you leave your vehicle on the curb (they'll impound it in 5 minutes). Don't even try to beat the traffic cops in SF, it's just not fun.

if the hotel parking is valet, and you plan on using your car a bit, splurge for the valet. it will come in handy.
