My friend and I are planning to go to Boston this summer. Does it make sense to rent a car there or is there great, relatively inexpensive public transportation?

I am a student at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Mass. Recently, I recieved an email from the school's administration explaining about the possibility of the college becoming a university in the near future. The school's administration is in the process of setting up exploratory teams and scheduled open community discussions to assess the feasibility of the college's current and future status. It seems exciting, but I wonder what people throughout The Commonwealth thinks of the possibility of having a second state-run university system, other than UMass?

I'm visiting a friend in Milford, Massachusetts in early March for a week and would like some ideas of some stuff to do while I'm there. I visited in January but most things were closed because it's winter. But if anyone could give me suggestions that are indoors or appropriate for the winter I would appreciate it!

I currently live in San Diego, CA but I would love to move to the east coast, specifically Boston. I want to know whether it is feasible. What is the average cost of living there (rent, utilities, etc)? Any insight would help!

I may be going to grad school at U-Mass-Amherst, and am wondering about the quality of life. I love the outdoors/hiking/snowshoeing/biking and a great cultural life (arts, events, dining, coffee shops, comfy non-dive bars). Do U-Mass students ever adapt to the (blech) huge concrete towers on campus? Are there also many young professionals in the area? Easy to meet people?

Should you fly into Boston and then fly into Nantucket or should you take a boat from Boston to Nantucket. Is there a better place than Boston to fly into first?

I have just read "Moby Dick" and "Ahab's Wife" and have fallen in love with the history and the description of the people and the landscape there. Anyone who has been there that wants to share info would be greatly appreciated.
