how safe is Lowell, MA?

I am looking at schools there and was wondering where i could find stats on crime information, any suggestions?

Downtown Lowell, with its national park and its encouragement of artists lofts, like Providence has become quite a funky place, and like such artists places everywhere is generally safe, though with eccentrics.

The periphery areas around downtown vary in safety but are generally no where near a tenth the danger of - say - Detroit or New Orleans. Also, many of these neighborhoods are populated by SE Asian immigrants; you can find some of the best, cheapest Cambodian and Vietnamese food on the East Coast.

The one drawback to going to school in Lowell: the city and state in its wisdom built the new train station (trains to Boston) south of downtown, about 1 1/2 miles away from the university, instead of nearer, so one must walk or bus or bike it if one lives downtown or in a university dorm.

Lowell is a city and has its share of crime and gangs. there are some nice towns nearby u could consider

Lowell is an okay city. it kinda bor sometime because it is not like any big city such as LA or anything. but it is very quiet, and relaxing. yes sometime it get noisy and there are gang and crime. but there are time it is good too. the schools are okay. not too bad nor too good.

It is not totally safe, as there are crimes everywhere. The schools there are not exactly the best in Boston.
