I need to find some locations for some filming of views of the city to be used as video backgrounds for news reports. They would preferably be high up to ensure that it looks like there is an actual studio there. Street scenes wouldn't work for this reason, but I could use scenes from a park or similar.

Cheers

Well, I've noticed recently that characters on television only refer to London- and think that we drink tea and think the queen is important to us (she was good for tourism only!). OK not really a question more of a rant, but please contribute. Also 'English people' on American TV all sound the same: pompus and arrogant.

Hey I'm English and don't like the bad representations!!!!!!!!

Quite confused about the geographic reference- Is it okay to write just England or Britain or Great Britain? When does one refer to united Kingdom? Why?

I currently live in the US and am looking to move to Europe, probably London or somewhere in the general area. I have a friend that lives near Oxford who has told me somethings, but I was wondering if somebody who has actually moved abroad could tell me more about what it's like. How difficult is it? How receptive are the people? How easy/hard was it to find work, a place to live? Just any kind of info that you think would be helpful, or anything you would've liked to known before you made the move.

We are moving to England. She is 5 and quite advanced. (or so i think, no bias here!) She reads, writes, and speaks more clearly and with more structured sentences/'grown up' words than most kindergardeners, and her teacher, piano teacher etc. all comment on it. We are from the midwest, so we have no pronounced drawl, etc., to overcome. A few years ago, I lived in Louisiana, and after being there for a while, I found myself s-l-o-w-i-n-g down my speech patterns, because it was so easy to do. My British husband only lived in the US for a bit, so of course his British accent is very pronounced. Therefore, I am thinking that because I am the only one around her that will be american, she will gradually lose her current accent. On one hand, this would be great, as she wouldn't sound like an 'outsider' but...I never want her to lose her identity as an American (and yes yes yes I know its not the accent, or lack thereof that makes you american). Should I encourage her to lose it?
